Pleasantville Rotary Club Launches Relief Fund for Turkey

The recent earthquakes in Southern Turkey have devastated the population. Another earthquake hit the region just hours ago. The death toll since the first quakes is already over 40,000 and continues to grow. For the survivors, the situation is grim. Not only are they dealing with the loss of loved ones, but in the middle of winter, they have been left without shelter and virtually any basic necessities.

DONATE TODAY!

Rotary International has established The Turkey/Syria Disaster Response Fund to provide much needed aid and assistance.  Much like we did at this time last year for Ukraine, The Rotary Club of Pleasantville is raising funds to help with the crisis, this time for the people of Turkey and Syria affected by this terrible disaster.  Your tax deductible donation will go directly to the Response Fund. Details of how funds are being used by the fund are below.

Our goal is to quickly raise $10,000 in 10 days!

Won't you please give today?

Over $10,000 in Ukraine relief raised by the Pleasantville Rotary Club Andy Sullivan 2022-05-12 04:00:00Z 0

Pleasantville Rotary’s Relief Fund for Ukraine has now raised over $6000!

Initiated by incredibly generous donations of $500 each by three Pleasantville Rotarians, the club has launched a fundraising effort for Ukrainian Relief. Our club will partner with the Rotary Club of Gizycko in Poland to provide much needed assistance to Ukrainian refugees fleeing the horrible situation in their homeland.

The Rotary Club of Gizycko is working with Rotary Clubs in Ukraine and 6 other Rotary Clubs in Poland. They purchase and transport supplies that the Rotary Clubs in Ukraine identify as needed. Then they bring the supplies to the Polish/Ukraine border where members of the Rotary Clubs in Ukraine meet them to take the supplies to those in need in Ukraine.

A Blast from the Past, the Way Past

We recently received a copy of this photo from the Town Historian for Mt. Pleasant, Jim Maxwell.  We don't know the date of the photo, but it must have been from the very early days of our club (we were founded in 1924).  Membership was robust then, there are 40 gentlemen in the photo.

Pleasantville Athletics Donation

The Rotary Club of Pleasantville received a donation of $1,200.00 from Pleasantville High School Athletics Department, presented to us by Athletic Director, John Bauerlein and Acting Director of Special Education, Don Iorio.  When the pandemic hit John and Don sold Pleasantville HS Panther apparel online with the intent of using the profits for a worthy cause.  Our Club will in turn donate this money to the Gullotta House, a nonprofit that provides food vouchers and other aid to residents of Westchester County who are facing financial or other hardships.

Meeting with Mary Shackelton at Our First In-Person Meeting since March

We a wonderful face-to-face outside meeting on September, the first since March.  It gave us an ideal opportunity to invite District Governor Mary Shackelton to meet with us.  Mary brought with her Assistant District Governor, Donald Rizzo.  The District’s theme this year is ROTARY OPENS OPPORTUNITIES.  Mary’s on-line learning opportunities are relevant, informative and helpful in keeping our own Clubs up and running during this sheltered period.  They are doing a fantastic job of getting the word out about what’s happening in Rotary.  Members expressed their appreciation to Mary for her service to Rotary and our District.
